Tennis unit 2011

For the next two weeks, we will be introducing a unit over tennis. The Fieldhouse has been turned into a make shift tennis facility during the day and kids had a blast today learning the forehand and the backhand groundstrokes. This is one of my favorite units to instruct as I head coach the girls high school team and assist the boys high school team. We also have the privilege of having a certified tennis instructor help teach tennis, and he just happens to be my husband. Andrew Miller works at the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center http://www.hcitc.net/ and can be reached at 260-668-0659 or andrew_hcitc@yahoo.com  to answer any questions you may have about getting signed up for tennis clinics or private lessons all year long. Now to the pictures and videos!!! Have a great day*~

Dance unit in 2011

Happy New Year! With the new year comes new trends in Physical Education. It's exciting to see  opportunities for kids to be physically active in an updated way. One controversial habit of kids today is the use of video games. While I would say that hours upon hours sitting down staring at a screen is not the best use of our children's time, I think if you can integrate technology into movement oriented classes, it's awesome. Check out an article I was quoted in the Kokomo Tribune to see my opinions on this. http://kokomotribune.com/local/x104122942/Childhood-wellness-Making-up-the-physical-standard/print  Kids love technology and really respond well to it in my classroom. Over the next two weeks, we will be doing a dance and fitness unit. Some of the activities we will be doing are: Wii FIT,  Just Dance on the Wii, Cardio Aerobic DVD's, AND....having a guest ZUMBA instructor come in. The kids enjoy these activities, therefore are excited to participate and get moving. Be sure to see the pictures and vids of the students having fun and being fit.
